A man from Fremont, Indiana has died from his injuries following a tree cutting accident February 6 near Clearwater and Cranson Roads in Branch County's Bethel Township. 56-year-old Brian Thompson pased away Tuesday, two weeks after he was flown from the scene by West Michigan Air Care to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne after he was hit in the head by a falling tree.

A man who led police on a 100 mile per hour pursuit through three counties last August was ordered to serve between 80 months and 10 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Tuesday in Hillsdale County Circuit Court. He was wanted on several warrants including one for absconding from parole in Kalamazoo County at the time of the pursuit which started in Marshall when he tried to flee from medical personnel who had been called for an unresponsive man.

Language in a second recall petition against Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble that was filed by Alexia and Stephen Rish of Coldwater was approved Tuesday morning on a 3-0 vote by the Michigan State Board of Canvassers. The petition had to be rewritten after the first one was voted down 4-0 January 30, 2018 because it did not state factually and clearly each reason for Kimble's recall.

One year to the day after he was accused of leading police on a high speed chase which according to court documents reached speeds as high as 135 miles an hour, a Battle Creek man admitted his guilt in Branch County Circuit Court on Monday. 32-year-old Joshua Allan Miller entered a guilty plea to a charge of third degree fleeing and eluding.

A District Court spokesperson says he was taken into custody Monday at the Branch County Courthouse where he was scheduled to be sentenced in a domestic violence case.

On a 4-0 vote, the Michigan State Board of Canvassers turned down a recall petition on Tuesday which was filed against Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble by Alexia and Stephen Rish of Coldwater. But the four member board made up of two Republicans and two Democrats felt the language in the petition failed to do that.

Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer has issued a statement concerning last July's incident at the Branch County Jail involving former Coldwater Police Officer Lewis Eastmead, which has cast the city in a negative light. A federal lawsuit was filed against the police department and the City of Coldwater in December 2017 by former Coldwater resident Tiffany McNeil over the incident, which was videotaped by Sheriff's Department cameras and picked up by news organizations all over the world.

Former Quincy school teacher and Information Technology Director Jason Ferrell was ordered to serve between seven years, 11 months and 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered no contest pleas November 27, 2017 to two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. Ferrell's sentence was handed down after he was publicly embarrassed by the former student he sexually abused in 2016.

Michigan State Police Detective/Sergeant Aaron Steensma is looking at a long recovery back to health after he was shot Wednesday morning at a residence in Branch County's Union Township as a warrant was being served in connection with the Duane Finney cold case murder investigation. Steensma's family has released a statement, thanking everyone for their support and particular the medical personnel from the EMS crews to the doctors and nurses at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and at Borgess Medical Center.
