A trailer home west of Coldwater in Branch County's Batavia Township was destroyed by fire early Sunday. The alarm for the blaze came into Central Dispatch around 2:30 a.m. Nobody was hurt although it was a very close call for a woman who lives next door to the trailer that was leveled by the fire.

Tom Foley now suing for damages in murder case Thursday, June 8

Branch County and the State of Michigan have been named as defendants in a suit filed by Tom Foley after he was first convicted and then found not guilty of killing his wife in February 2009. The suit was filed in the Michigan Court of Claims by Foley's attorney Thomas Schaeffer following the adoption of a state law last year which makes those who feel they were wrongfully imprisoned eligible to get $50,000 a year.

Attorney Robert Huber said during a May 26, 2017 special meeting of the Quincy Board of Education that the Sheriff's Department had requested Quincy Community Schools to halt their administrative investigation of two administrators with the district.

M-60 repaving in Branch and Calhoun counties starts Monday

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation will be repaving 8.8 miles of M-60 from the St. Joseph/Branch county line to east of 8 Mile Road in Union City, Calhoun County. The $5.4 million investment includes lane realignment at the M-60/M-66 intersection south of Athens, and adding a right-turn lane for eastbound-to-southbound traffic.

A Coldwater teenager has been arrested for an alleged computer sex crime involving minors and for the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile female. 18-year old Shane William Watson is being held on $100,000 bond after being arraigned Friday in Branch County District Court.

A Tekonsha man who was convicted of second degree criminal sexual conduct in Branch County back in 1995 is now facing three first degree counts in Calhoun County. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports 47-year-old Perry Coleman was arraigned on Monday for allegedly raping a young girl under the age of 10 following an investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
