|Road rage incident on I-69 results in arrest|

We don't know how they do things in Kentucky but around here it's a crime to point a gun at someone. Michigan State Police say that's what happened during an apparent road rage incident along I-69 Saturday evening that began in Branch County and ended in Calhoun County.

Michigan State Police say a drunk driver in Branch County who tested with a blood alcohol level 3 times over the legal limit last night was behind the wheel with 2 young children in the vehicle. A motorist on northbound I-69 near Fenn Road south of Coldwater said she saw a minivan driving erratically from lane to lane and called 911 Central Dispatch around 9:00 p.m. Thursday and a "be on the lookout" for the van was issued.

Two people were injured and taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a crash in Branch County's Quincy Township involving a pickup truck and an SUV. The collision occurred around 1:20 p.m. Thursday on US 12 at Boone Road east of Quincy.

It now appears both parents of a 2-1/2-year-old Union City girl who tested positive for morphine are facing 2nd degree child abuse charges for allegedly exposing the child to illicit drugs. 22-year-old Nicholas Platek also faces a heroin possession count.

A Branch County child abuse case has resulted in the arrest of a man accused of allowing an infant to ingest morphine. 22-year old Nicholas Platek of Union City surrendered last night at the Branch County jail.
|Lightening strike causes Sherwood Township blaze Wednesday, July 12|

A house in Branch County's Sherwood Township has been damaged by fire that was sparked by an overnight lightning strike. Branch County 911 Central Dispatch took the call on the blaze from the homeowner, who said everyone was able to get out of the home right after the fire first started around 3:45 a.m.Wednesday.

The Branch County Prosecutor's Office now has the findings of a Sheriff's Department investigation into the Quincy School District's handling of sexual misconduct allegations against a former teacher. The Sheriff's Department report was turned in Monday, which was the same day Superintendent Craig Artist wrote a letter of resignation to the Quincy Board of Education board announcing his plans to retire.

A Branch County Jail corrections officer and an inmate were both injured in an assault by the inmate at the jail last week. Sheriff John Pollack told the Branch County Board of Commissioners at their meeting Thursday that the assault led to a lockdown at the county Jail.

Sheriff John Pollack told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that the posse has been disbanded as of last Saturday, July 1, 2017 due to liability issues concerning the riders and horses. Pollack said Captain Tim Sherman and three other posse members will be reassigned to other duties and that the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department would be available if needed.

Several people were on a pontoon boat in the middle of a lake, lighting off large fireworks. A spark went into a bucket holding the other fireworks, causing them to explode all at once.

At least three people were injured in a fireworks explosion at the Gilead Lake public access site on Sunday night. Bronson Fire Department Chief Scott Wilber says six people were on a pontoon boat setting off fireworks when a spark went into a bucket of mortar round type fireworks causing an explosion which blew people off the pontoon.
