LaSata Announces Campaign Co-Chairs

State Representative Kim LaSata has announced her campaign co-chairs as she runs for the Michigan Senate in the 21st District, and they're some well-known names. LaSata tells us her chair for Berrien County will be Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey, the chair for Cass County will be Southwestern Michigan College President Dave Mathews, and the chair for St. Joseph County will be former state Senator Cameron Brown.

Series of trailer break-ins in St. Joseph Co.

Deputies were dispatched Monday to the 22000 block of Klines Resort Road in Mendon Township to investigate the breaking and entering of a trailer. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered six trailers on the same road showed signs of attempted breaking and entering.

Counterfeiting case brings arrest in Coldwater Tuesday, February 13

Coldwater City Police say an alert gas station store clerk helped crack a counterfeiting case over the weekend that resulted in the arrest of a suspect. The investigation started late Sunday morning when the female clerk at the Marshall Street Shell called 9-1-1 to report a woman attempted to make a purchase with a phony $20 bill that the clerk said didn't exactly feel like or have the color of authentic currency.

Guilty: Man convicted of Kalamazoo Co. murder

Zachary Patten was convicted by a jury Monday morning of first degree murder and felony firearms. He was accused of killing Graciela Portillo-Esparza, 31, in Kalamazoo on July 20, 2017 A short time after killing Portillo-Esparza, he allegedly killed Shane Richardson, 29, in Florence Township in St. Joseph County.

Michigan snow totals rise as storm moves across Great Lakes

Many areas of southern Michigan have approached or exceeded a half-foot of snow as part of a winter storm moving across the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service reports as of early Friday afternoon, 9 inches had fallen in Berrien County's Bridgman along Lake Michigan in the southwestern part of the state.

One killed, 4 injured in crash near Three Rivers

A Three Rivers man was killed and four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident west of Three Rivers. The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department says 57-year-old Randy Lee Jansen died in the accident which took place at about 3:00 p.m. near the intersection of M-60 and Roberts Road.

A Michigan man faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in a police pursuit crash that killed an Indiana motorist. Thirty-nine-year-old James Morrison of Niles, Michigan, pleaded guilty Monday to five felony counts, including resisting law enforcement, in the February 2017 crash.
