Poker Face FAQ
I am – Hercules!!
What’s it called? “Poker Face.”
Who’s responsible? Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed the acclaimed motion pictures “The Last Jedi,” “Glass Onion,” “Knives Out,” “Looper” and “Brick,” created the series and serves as showrunner. He also wrote and directed the first episode.
What’s it about? Natasha Lyonne (“Orange Is The New Black,” “Russian Doll") plays Charlie Cale, a Nevada cocktail waitress who possesses an unfailing, almost supernatural ability to discern when someone is or isn’t lying. When she runs afoul of a vengeful, murderous casino owner, she flees east. Coincidentally, somebody gets murdered in every town she stops in and she ends up using her uncanny superpower to identify the killers.
Natasha Lyonne? Is “Poker Face” anywhere near as good as the Emmy-nominated “Russian Doll”? It’s better. Way better. The pragmatic, foul-mouthed amateur detective amuses greatly and makes better use of Lyonne than anything else I’ve seen her in.* Charlie’s typically hilarious dialogue makes her a worthy successor to both Jim Rockford and Lieutenant Columbo. I realize this is high praise, but that praise is earned.
(*Though she’s rarely been cast as a project’s lead character, the 43-year-old actress has worked A TON since since Woody Allen cast a 16-year-old Lyonne in his 1996 comedy-musical “Everybody Says I Love You.”)
The big news? While Charlie’s earthy, unpretentious nature will remind many of Columbo, the “Poker Face” format will remind many of “Columbo.” In each

“I’ve stayed close to [Lucasfilm chief] Kathleen [Kennedy] and we get together often and talk about it,” “Last Jedi” writer-director Rian Johnson just told Empire of his long-awaited Star Wars movie trilogy. “It’s just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn’t get back in that sandbox at some point.”
Other Star Wars movies remain in development, including one intended to be co-written and directed by Taika Waititi (the last two Thor movies) and another being produced by Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige (all four Thor movies).
CinemaScore’s scientific polling indicated that the overwhelming majority of moviegoers loved “The Last Jedi," which became the top-grossing movie of 2017.
Critics loved “Last Jedi” as well:

Johnson is accustomed to rave reviews, having earned high marks from critics for “Brick,” “Looper” and “Knives Out” as well.
Johnson's second Knives Out movie, "Glass Onion," screens at the Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 10.

UPDATE AUGUST 21 2022:
The first episode of #HouseofthedragonHBO takes too long to get where it’s going; the birthing/jousting sequence seemed to go on forever. And so far I see no characters worthy of Tyrion, Arya, Dany, Jaime, Varys, Baelish, Joffrey, Stannis, Davos, Theon, Bron or Sam.
The new series seems to feature fewer plotlines and characters than did the "Game of Thrones" pilot.  There are no side-trips to Essos or Winterfell or Castle Black.  The premiere's struggle to compellingly fill 70 minutes is particularly surprising given that the George RR Martin book to which it owes its plot is 754 pages long.
It also lacks the wit of its sister series.
Importantly, the showrunners behind "Game of Thrones" are not involved in the new series.  Ryan Condal -- who wrote two of Dwayne Johnson's worst movies, 2014's Hercules" (54% positive reviews from “top critics” polled by Rotten Tomatoes) and the Kong rip-off "Rampage" (48%) -- is scripting "House of the Dragon."
The poor writing (and the many other proposed "Thrones" prequels' failure to receive series orders) would explain why HBO very recently put into development its first "Thrones" sequel, which focuses on fan favorite Jon Snow.
ORIGINAL POST:
I am – Hercules!!
Edgy, violent, moving, agreeably complex, darkly funny, fast-paced, nudity-embracing and possessed of an army of compelling characters, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is an A+ entertainment and the season’s best new series. I wager it may even end “Mad Men’s” long reign as Emmy’s best drama.
Let me go a step further. So far I’m enjoying it

She-Hulk FAQ
I am – Hercules!!
What’s it called? “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.”
Who’s responsible? Longtime TV writer Jessica Gao ("Silicon Valley," “Rick and Morty”) serves as creator, head writer and showrunner.
The big news? This is the first small-screen Marvel effort that’s better than most of the big-screen Marvel fare. It is very funny but not nearly as silly as its premise would lead you to believe.
Will Florida governor Ron “Don’t Say Gay” DeSantis like it? Hey, Ron! She-Hulk’s best friend Nikki is a hilarious, piping-hot lesbian! And she’s being all lesbitastic on smallfry magnet Disney+! You should demand that Disney be banned from all Florida Internets! Because Florida preteens are already hearing “gay” too much in Disney’s new Thor movie and on daily broadcast repeats of “Modern Family”! To say nothing of “Game of Thrones” and “Euphoria”!
How does it start? The first episode, which boasts plenty of screen time for Mark Ruffalo, concerns itself mostly with how Bruce Banner’s blood transformed his lawyer cousin, Jen Walters, into the title character. Spoiler alert: There is no transfusion involved.
What says Disney? “In Marvel Studios’ ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) — an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases — must navigate the complicated life of a single, 30-something who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode comedy series welcomes a host of MCU vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk,

Thour FAQ
I am – Hercules!!
What’s it called? “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Who’s responsible? “Thor III” helmer Taika Waititi (“Hunt For The Wilderpeople,” “Things We Do In The Shadows,” “Jojo Rabbit”) directs from his own screenplay. (Note: though “Thor III” certainly feels like Waititi wrote it, he received no screenplay credit for his 2017 Thor.)
The big news? This may be the gayest Disney movie to date. Tessa Thompson returns as the lesbitastic King Valkyrie and Korg has two dads. Will the sad, impotent governor Ron DeSantis try to stop this smallfry-magnet from flooding into Florida’s multiplexes?
How does it start? In a forbidding desert, a bald extraterrestrial named Gorr (Christian Bale, who made the best Batman movie) prays to his gods to save the life of his daughter.
What says Disney? “Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct.”
How is Natalie Portman now Thor? Is she a multiverse variant? No, it’s the same girlfriend we met in the first two Thor movies. It’s important to note that Jane Foster is now “a Thor,” not “The Thor.” Thor is Thor also. As one might guess, the Foster character is far, far better utilized this time around. Natalie Portman is wonderful, and I love that her Thor-self is so much taller than the regular

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness FAQ
I am – Hercules!!
What’s it called? “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
Who’s responsible? Sam Raimi (“Darkman,” “Army of Darkness,” “The Quick and the Dead,” the first three Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” movies), directs from a screenplay by “Loki” creator Michael Waldron (“Rick & Morty”). (Waldron is also reportedly scripting a new Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm and Marvel movie mastermind Kevin Feige.)
Hey, didn’t Waldron’s old “Rick & Morty” boss, “Community” mastermind Dan Harmon, do an uncredited rewrite of Cumberbatch’s first “Doctor Strange” movie? He did.
What says Disney? “The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”
What is Disney not telling us? We learn early on the “mysterious new adversary” is The Scarlet Witch, who has grown crazy and murderous since the death of her robot boyfriend in “Avengers III.” Strange’s main mystical ally this time around is America Chavez, a new superpowered character who cannot at first control her ability to transverse universes.
Is “Madness” any good? It is a decent Marvel movie, though disappointingly not as wonderful as Raimi’s “Darkman” or his first two Spidey movies. Also, this one made me laugh less than most Raimi

Avast, ye mateys! HBOMax's OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH, brought to us by creator David Jenkins (TBS's "People of Earth"), has just wrapped up its first season run on the streaming platform and it evolved into quite a wild ride throughout its 10-episode run. I finished the show late last night and after sleeping on it and talking to every available person who would listen I realized that I am compelled to write a little review/reaction to the show and my hopes for a season two. When I took to Twitter to see if anyone else was carrying on about the show as I was I stumbled across a very active and adoring fan art community that I just had to share with you.
First off, if you're unfamiliar with the show or its premise, here is the official trailer:

To say that I was interested in the show is something of an understatement. From the appearance of Rhys Darby (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, YES MAN) and Taika Waititi (JOJO RABBIT, "The Mandalorian") I was already hooked. Then seeing Fred Armisen (who is arguably the busiest person in Hollywood; dude is in EVERYTHING), Leslie Jones, Will Arnett, Nat Faxon, Claudia O'Doherty, Rory Kinnear, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, and Samson Kayo truly reeled me in. Once aboard I discovered the amazing Noel Fry, Nathan Foad, Con O'Neill, Vico Ortiz, Samba Schutte, and Ewen Bremner and marveled at how everyone onboard (pun intended) did such great work on this show.
The show goes places

The Batman FAQ
I am – Hercules!!
What’s it called? “The Batman.”
Who’s responsible? Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield,""Let Me In," the last two Planet of the Apes movies) directs from a screenplay by Reeves and Peter Craig ("Mockingjay," "Bad Boys For Life").
What’s it about? Two years into his career as Batman, a twentysomething Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) is remotely confronted by one Edward Nashton (Paul Dano). Nashton hopes to transition from riddle-loving serial killer to riddle-loving mass murderer.
How does it compare to prior Batman movies? From where I stand it is not as good as “The Dark Knight” or “Batman Begins” or “Batman V Superman.” It is not even as much fun as the lost and lamentable “Dark Knight Rises,” which boasted laudable moments but not enough of them to turn my thumb skyward.
Not as good as “The Dark Knight Rises”?? “The Batman” seems to exist not because anyone had something new or original to say about Batman, but because the character — still Warner Bros.’ most popular superhero property — has not been seen on the big screen since 2017’s (much better) “Justice League.”* The lack of originality stands in marked contrast to last year’s superhero extravaganza “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (the best picture of 2021 if you’re asking me), which has a lot on its mind.
(*Batman : Warner :: Star Trek : Paramount. Starfleet’s overseers seem similarly and quixotically less concerned about ginning up a worthwhile

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest STAR WARS geekery popping around on the net.  I don't know about you, but I absolutely loved that first episode of THE BAD BATCH that hit DisneyPlus earlier this week.  The second episode felt like a step down for me.  But I trust in Dave Filoni.  Since that first theatrical pilot for THE CLONE WARS, he hasn't had a single misstep - and the work he's been doing on THE MANDALORIAN has had me excited about the rest of the STAR WARS verse.
Today over at MakingStarWars.Net they've got photos of Cassian Andor, himself, and some of the set looks over there.  It's fun just knowing that there are many Bothans out there gathering juicy glimpses, right?
We still have to wait for some  yet to be revealed date in 2022 to see more of this doomed Rebel in his earlier adventures.   I've heard a few smatterings from the set, but the most exciiting was that there's a new cool humanoid robot in it.
Also - did you check out the STAR WARS BIOMES feature on DISNEY+?  It's the most chill and relaxed passive gaze at the far far away place we love.  But as with all things STAR WARS, there's  never enough.   That HOTH view - 4 - 5 hours would do nicely.   Just a Wampa watching the whole battle while gnawing on a TaunTaun leg would do nicely.   The SHIP fly throughs are less thrilling, but fun too.

"Small towns..." he says, and with those ominous words he leaves a befuddled Vision. McEric talks the first two episodes of WandaVision

Howdy, y'all! McEric here with my thoughts on the first two episodes of the Disney+ series "WandaVision." If you've been living under a rock, here's the trailer:

A friend - "It's good, for what it is."
Me - "Yes, but what is it? Why is it?"
These are the questions I posited while watching the first two episodes of WandaVision with a friend late in the day this past Friday. In truth, it is good. The sitcom beats land, and the subterfuge rarely lets up through the first two episodes, even though we're all watching with fixated eyes.

The characters of Wanda and Vision (Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, respectively) seem to know who they are, in terms of their powers and dissimilarities with their neighbors, but not why they are. Why they're there, why they're trying to assimilate to a polite society, or where they've been (though they do proffer that they emigrated from Sokovia).
We see at the end of the first episode that they are being monitored at S.W.O.R.D., S.H.I.E.L.D.'s galactic division, and it's intimated in the second episode that S.W.O.R.D. is affecting goings on within their reality, but the presence of television ads featuring both Stark and Hydra "tech" lead the viewer to believe that they're "control" is in contest. Who is pulling the strings? And why? A desperate voice from the radio calls through in the second episode, reaching out for Wanda, in the words of a friend. Who is it?

What I enjoyed most about viewing WandaVision was the unfolding

Well, we now have our first glimpse! It isn’t much, but I’ll take it! Check it out!

Well, what do you think out there? Are you as excited as I am for Cobra Kai to return? My only hope is that Netflix doesn’t spoil it or cancel it at its height of popularity - in true Netflix fashion. I have a few predictions of my own, but I’m more interested in hearing yours!
Post your fan theories and share your excitement (or hate) in the comments and remember, “strike first, strike hard, no mercy!”

Howdy all! 'Tis the season for all things joyous and full of child-like glee, and Disney+ has given us our first gift of the year! The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special hit the streaming service Tuesday, November 17th, and it is 100% pure brightly colored Fan Service...
And I love it! Here's the trailer:

To truly dissect the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special requires us to look at several factors that led to this moment. Of course, there is the original Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978, which is unanimously agreed to be a tone-def cash grab of disastrous proportions. Then there is the emergence of LEGO as a property that is so universally loved that it has been granted use of practically every piece of intellectual property from the past seventy years. Seriously, look at their catalog! They've got DC, Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars; hell, you can even build your own LEGO Nintendo! The chief reason that LEGO is extended such licensing opportunities is their track record of handling these properties with respect and levity. THE LEGO BATMAN MOIVE was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2017, not to mention THE LEGO MOVIE and its sequel; even the LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE was fun.
LEGO has been producing Star Wars shorts for quite some time, and it is with a sigh of relief that I learned they were making a brand new Holiday Special. Please, oh please, let something come along to wash out the memory of the original! The synopsis for

Dedicated WANDAVISION trailer hits & it looks wild!

Vision is dead and yet not. What is the afterlife for ANDROIDs like?

Read the full article on AICN

Hey folks, Harry here...  WandaVision has a dedicated trailer.  We know that this show leads us into DR STRANGE: THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS...  And there seems to be problems with perceptions of reality throughout this.  Paul Bettany's VISION has many forms and at least in the timeline we know...  VISION is a dull grey hunk of dead tech.  And as of right now, I don't believe we have any real clue what has happened to the MCU in the wake of END GAME.   I mean, by killing Past Thanos in the Endgame Present.  The reality of all of this hasn't been ironed out.  Banner's theory of Time Travel could be accurate, but yet...  perhaps it isn't.  BLACK WIDOW isn't a post-ENDGAME film, so WandaVision will be our first post-ENDGAME MCU stuff... Right?
Now in the MCU, Scarlet Witch's power hasn't been MUTANT given, but was somehow tied to the MIND STONE with them HYDRA EXPERIMENTS at the beginning of AGE OF ULTRON.
So again, VISION is dead without his mind stone, but THANOS died before he popped that cosmic forehead pimple.  And ultimately, we're about to discover Fiege's Theory of Time Travel and Reality intervention.  Then there's Scarlet Witch and she wants Vision back - and the show is called WandaVision so...  we're about to see some form of how Time & Reality warps to serve the  needs of the story tellers.
This Coming Soon tag is what I find annoying though.   I need a date to look forward to,

SHE-HULK thinks she's a Clone Now!

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest from Marvel's DISNEY+ plans for strongest legal counsel you ever will meet. Jennifer Walters was Bruce Banner's Cousin, who received a blood transfusion in the comics from Puny Banner and wound up needing all new sizes in clothing.  I picked up my SHE-HULK one at the corner 7-ELEVEN in 1980 and it made my Cousin Mouse so much cooler, cuz...  Cousins could become SHE-HULK.   Don't you miss child logic?

Marvel announced today that Tatiana Maslany, whom you may remember from ORPHAN BLACK as the Clones.  Or you may recall her from HBO's brilliant adaptation of PERRY MASON.   Kat Corio is directing the pilot for the series & it is unknown if they're sticking to the original comic origins and having Mark Ruffalo provide an emergency transfusion to Ms. Maslany or not.   But that'd be nifty!

SHE-HULK has been all over the Marvel Universe and we'll see how they treat her on the show, which will surely out-do her Eighties MARVEL ILLUSTRATED swimsuit issue.  Will she join the FANTASTIC FOUR, SHIELD or DEFENDERS or LUKE CAGE or...  there's so many ways to take her.  Will she face DAREDEVIL in a Courtroom?   Or working out on Muscle Beach?

Let's see where they take us.

Keep it cool,

Hey folks, Harry here...  Long have we awaited this day, the day we see more from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni's THE MANDALORIAN.   The Season Two trailer has dropped and shown us some delights most tranquil.  We see Gamorrean Guard Axe Arena Battle, we see stoic shots of The Mandalorian & The Child...  and we see Speeder Bikes going off a cliff & land.   We see a Cyclops and an Apollo Creed.   This is pure gooseflesh inducing joy here.   Why does it work so well?

Let's take this Gamorrean Guard Arena Axe Battle set up.   Now, I don't know about you, but I'm an original STAR WARS kid.  I had a ton of toys and a ton of friends that would come over and play in my backyard with the toys.   When the Gamorrean Guards hit, they had them axes in the package and pitting the Pig Guards against one another was just a thing ya did.  It came natural.  Jabba seemed like the type of Hoodlum that enjoyed the sadistic pitting of pawns against one another, and when Jedi hit...  Gamorrean Guards were damn straight the coolest new pawns.   By doing this in the trailer it plays directly to the Child operating your Geek Ganglia.  At least, that's the observation I have with my own Geek Soul.

Then Take that Speeder Bike off the cliffs thing.   Now obviously the Speeder Bikes were a bit Italian, ya know, Fra-Geeel-a, so I wasn't throwing them,

The Stand Will Deliver More Pandemic This December- UPDATED WITH TEASER!!

Read the full article on AICN

Hey folks! Cobrak here, to talk about the coolest news of the year (in my humble opinion at least).

ViacomCBS has announced The Stand, their new miniseries, based on Stephen King's (very timely) 1978 novel, will be premiering on CBS All Access on December 17, 2020!

The door stopper of a novel, which was released as an even longer "Complete and Uncut" edition in 1990, tells the story of a super-flu, known as Captain Trips, that kills 99.4% of the population; and the subsequent battle of good versus evil between the two surviving factions.

It's also famous amongst King's Constant Readers as being the first of his novels to feature recurring antagonist Randall Flagg (also known as The Man in Black, Marten Broadcloak, the Walkin' Dude, Walter o'Dim, The Dark Man, and a myriad of aliases who use the initials R.F.) who started out as a farm boy named Walter Padick in the world of The Dark Tower. Flagg was previously played by the exquisitely mulleted Jamey Sheridan in the original The Stand miniseries in 1994, and Matthew McConaughey in the abysmal 2017 The Dark Tower film (ugh). This time around he's being played by Alexander Skarsgård, and judging from the publicity stills, I'm optimistic that they may have gotten the character right this time.

As a HUGE fan of King's universe, and The Dark Tower in particular (it's my Star Wars) I'm going all in on the optimism with this one. The cast is pretty great (a couple questionable choices aside), Stephen and Owen

BRISCO COUNTY JR. SADDLES UP AGAIN!!

Hey folks, Cobrak here!

After 26 years Bruce Campbell has announced on Twitter he is set to put the Stetson back on and reprise his iconic role as Brisco County Jr...in a live table read on July 31st!

For those not familiar, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. was a western sci-fi hybrid that aired 27 episodes on Fox in 1993. Campbell starred as the title character, a Harvard educated lawyer-turned bounty hunter, who ran into weekly sci-fi adventures on the trail of the man who killed his dad; while also searching for the mysterious Orb, a piece of technology from the future.

Unfortunately, Brisco County (the show; not the county, or the man) was killed off after one season.

From the official description:

Brisco stars Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead; Burn Notice), Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl), Christian Clemenson (Turn: Washington’s Spies), John Pyper-Ferguson (Suits), and co-creator and showrunner Carlton Cuse (Locke & Key; Lost) reunite for a live table read of Brisco’s first adventure and a conversation about the show that means so much to them. Special guest stars include Khary Payton (The Walking Dead; Teen Titans Go!), Eric Edelstein (We Bare Bears; Jurassic World), Ana Villafañe (New Amsterdam), Baron Vaughn (Grace & Frankie; MST3K), Nestor Carbonell (The Morning Show; Lost), and more to be announced.

FOUNDATION releases first trailer ahead of its Apple TV+ premiere.

Read the full article on AICN

Howdy, y'all! McEric here with a follow-up from an announcement I made here almost two years ago!
David S Goyer (DARK CITY, the DARK KNIGHT film series) and Co. have released a first trailer for their adaptation of Isaac Asimov's FOUNDATION trilogy adaptation for Apple TV+. Check it out!

Wow! I have to say that I think it looks amazing! Jared Harris (SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, HBO's "Chernobyl") is clearly channeling a Steve Jobs-vibe, which tracks with Goyer's assertion that Apple has somewhat come to embody what Asimov felt about corporations and their ascension to the highest level of personal involvement with consumers. Lee Pace (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, THE HOBBIT film series) is captivating, as always. The scope of this film seemed too large to vault, as has been said many times in the past, to varied degrees of success. It was said about VALERIAN and JOHN CARTER OF MARS, and it proved to be true. However, it was also said of THE PRINCESS BRIDE, and gave us one of the most beloved films of all-time.
Honestly, I have a lot of faith in the creative team behind this project, and the trailer looks ambitious enough to pull it off. What do you all think? Are you excited to see this classic science fiction masterpiece come to the screen or are you afraid they're going to louse it up? Let us know in the comments below and we'll all find out next year.
Until then, stay safe and healthy!

CREEPSHOW Season 1 Comes to DVD and Blu-ray on June 2nd!
Hey there, fellow horror geeks and monsterphiles! Prometheus here with some horror release news! Shudder’s CREEPSHOW, helmed by Greg Nicotero, is coming to DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday, June 2nd!

Based, of course, on the 1992 classic, the new CREEPSHOW is a total of six episodes in which a comic book comes to life. The six episodes were directed by Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”), Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead), John Harrison (Book of Blood), Rob Schrab (“Community”), David Bruckner (The Ritual) and Roxanne Benjamin (Body at Brighton Rock).
CREEPSHOW is fun, and even though it fails to live up to the original, it still has its moments. It features quite the cast starring, Tobin Bell (Saw franchise), Adrienne Barbeau (Escape From New York), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Cailey Fleming (“The Walking Dead”), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), Scott 'Kid Cudi' Mescudi (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Dana Gould (“Stan Against Evil”), Bruce Davison (X-Men), David Arquette (Scream franchise), DJ Qualls (“The Man in the High Castle”), and Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica”).
RLJE Films will release CREEPSHOW Season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray for $34.98. For that price, you also get a hefty amount of bonus material including three hours of interviews, behind the scenes footage and featurettes!
Special features on the DVD and Blu-ray include:
·      Cast and Crew Interviews
