No Mass at Holywell in April
Sun, 24 Mar 2019 18:00:00 GMT
Regretfully Canon Doyle cannot celebrate Mass at Holywell on Low Sunday (24th April).I have not been able to source a replacement (I've been aware and seeking a priest for a month) and the likelihood is that a priest will not be identified before the 24th April. Therefore, the Mass will be not take place in April. Second Sunday of Lent
Sat, 16 Mar 2019 18:00:00 GMT
Last Sunday the liturgy led us into a low desert where we beheld Jesus in His Human Nature.Today, we are led up to a high mountain where we are allowed to catch a faint glimpse of Jesus in His Divine Nature (Gospel).By this vision of Divinity on Thabor, Jesus wished to prepare the Apostles and us for the daily crucifixion of our humanity on the Calvery of Life. This lesson is our incentive against discouragement or failure. The Epistle indicates that the Christian life is not so much a series of [...]

Quinquagesima Sunday
Sat, 02 Mar 2019 18:00:00 GMT
On Quinquagesima Sunday we are encouraged to consider the blind man by the wayside. This blind man represents all sinful men. Our sins have blinded us to the light of God and to all truth. But, only those who acknowledge or recognise their own blindness will pray for light and sight as the man did in today's Gospel. Jesus' followers had just heard Him tell them about going to Jerusalem to be betrayed, to suffer and to die. They were unable to see or understand this. Their spiritual blindn [...]

Sexagesima at Holywell

Envy is a terrible vice that consumes and harms not the one who is being envied but the one who envies. The good things that God gives to some in no way harms others, but those who are envious bring harm upon themselves. Their discontent is their own doing. This is something that we must consider seriously because the world in which we live has such a strange idea of fairness, justice and right order. The society today preaches to us over and over a materialistic "equality" which is contr [...]

V Sunday after Epiphany
Sat, 09 Feb 2019 18:00:00 GMT
Parable of the Wheat and Weeds The theme for this Sunday’s Holy Mass considers a question that we all ask, “Where does evil come from?” O God, “didst thou not sow good seed in Thy field” of this world? “Whence then hath it cockle?” (Gospel). The answer to this comes from God, “An enemy hath done this.” Hence, when we cry for the rooting out of evildoers to ourselves or to the Church, it would be well to study the remaining verses of this [...]

IV Sunday after Epiphany
Sat, 02 Feb 2019 18:00:00 GMT
Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the sea, and there came a great calm. And the men marvelled, saying, What manner of Man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him? What is related to us in today's Gospel is meant to do more than relay a historical episode in the life of Jesus Christ and the Church. Our Holy Mother the Church recounts this Gospel for us today, so that we may be further instructed or inspired in the path of our own spiritual lives. The disciples of Jesus have see [...]
