Memorial Hospital of Texas County is seeing progress, per reports of staff and administration as Synergic Resource Partners Guymon LLC continues to move forward with work to improve patient care and services at the facility. This week, the Board of Trustees heard from COO Mike Carter, financial advisor Mike Mullins and CCO Kenda Pritchard, who shared updates.

Gide De scored three goals and Javier Medina two as the Guymon boys improved to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in District 5A-1 with a Cold, windy and wet 7-0 win over Del City, Friday evening. With a temperature around 40 degrees, a north wind gusting to 40 mph and intermittent light rain showers, the Tigers did the bulk of their scoring against the wind in building a 5-0 half advantage.

One of the many memorable experience many former Guymon students today recall is the annual participation in an event that remembers the events of the 1889 land run, in which hopeful pioneers awaited the crack of a gun, signaling their chance to claim a parcel of land to start a new life. Each year, students have learned about sewing, hanging the laundry, cooking, post hole digging, games that entertained groups in the Old West, and all about life in the Oklahoma territory before it became a state.

With high emotions, claims from legislators, bills signed and crowds increasing in size, the teacher walkout continues across the state of Oklahoma as educators and their supporters continue to send a message to the state capital on insufficient education funding. At the Guymon Public Schools Board of Education special meeting on March 19, teachers spoke before the board on their stance in support of a walkout.

A Guymon doctor has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for dispensing prescription drugs without a medical purpose. Christopher Bateman Slater, 57, admitted to providing promethazine with codeine to an individual without a legitimate reason.

Several Oklahoma Department of Public Safety driver's license locations are closed Monday, April 2. The agency tells News On 6 the closings are due to employees attending the rally at the capitol. Altus, Broken Arrow, Bartlesville, Guymon, Ponca City and Stillwater offices are closed, according to DPS.

Southmoore, Weatherford and Drummond high schools won sweepstakes titles at the 105th annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Interscholastic Meet held Thursday on the Weatherford campus. Director Taler Alexander said 64 Oklahoma schools competed in the academic contest, a tradition on the SWOSU campus since 1913.

After a historic raise is approved by the Oklahoma House and Senate, nearly 200 teachers across the district gathered to discuss their next plan of action. The Shawnee Tribe signed a deed placing 107 acres in the Oklahoma Panhandle officially in trust, clearing the way for the building of the Golden Mesa Casino. In doing so, the Tribe and its partners, Global Gaming Solutions, took a major step closer to the start of construction on the 42,000-square-foot, modern casino entertainment center on 107 acres southwest of Guymon, Okla., in Texas County.

Federal court documents claim a January traffic stop in Oklahoma yielded around 151.8 pounds of methamphetamine allegedly scheduled to be delivered to St. Paul. An affidavit filed in U.S District Court in Minnesota alleges William De Roo Ramirez was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry with Arizona license plates when he was stopped near Guymon, Oklahoma, on Jan. 18. Ramirez and his passenger, Maria Salas-Sanchez, were both arrested.

After discussions with the Guymon Public Schools Board of Education and district staff, changes have been made to the calendar in anticipation of the 2018-2019 school year. A longer Christmas Break and Spring Break are now scheduled, with other days shifted for staff throughout the year to accommodate the changes.
