|Former Las Vegas firefighter training officer may get $90K settlement|

|The city of Las Vegas is poised to pay a former fire training officer $90,000 to settle a wrongful termination lawsuit stemming from 2013 recruit testing that gained attention due to cheating allegations.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in 2014, argued that exam proctor Michael D. Jackson was the “fall guy for the defendants’ inability to properly educate and certify a class of firefighter recruits.|

|New fire station to open in Reno's South Meadows area|

|The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will be celebrating the opening of a new fire station in the South Meadows area near Foothill Road on Saturday, July 21.
The station will be providing fire and rescue services to the southern Truckee Meadows region.
Station 14 replaces a 30-year-old facility that closed in June, and is the third TMFPD station to be built in the last six years.|

|Nevada Senator Heller announces funding for wildfire cameras near Lake Tahoe|

|The U.S. government is sending $226,000 to Nevada for cameras to help detect and monitor wildfires near Lake Tahoe.
Sen. Dean Heller's Office announced the funding for the AlertTahoe program Tuesday morning that will allow cameras to be upgraded and new cameras to be installed.
The money comes on the heels of the Martin fire burning in a remote area north of Reno that got so big it was visible from space.|

|A sheriff says a wildfire just a few miles from northeast Nevada's largest city was ignited by an off-road vehicle that was destroyed by flames.
Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts told the Elko Daily Free Press the fire that charred nearly 6 square miles (15.5 square kilometers) started Saturday evening and burned toward Elko.|

|Fundraiser held for Storey County firefighter's son hit by car|

|Storey County Fire Fighters Local 4427 held a fundraiser to help the family of a young boy hit by a car in February. The fundraiser was held July 14, 2018 at the Delta Saloon in Virginia City, with spaghetti feed, silent auction, face-painting, bounce house, band and tours of fire equipment.
The victim, the six-year-old son of Fire Captain Fritz Kingler, was treated at Renown Regional Medical Center for a traumatic brain injury and broken femur, and was flown to a hospital in Utah for therapy and evaluation, with much of that treatment not covered by insurance.|

|An investigation is underway after a small wildfire broke out on Amargosa and Guildwood Drives off of Sun Valley Blvd. Monday morning.
Sierra Front says the Guildwood Fire was first reported just after 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says the fire was about less than an acre in size.|

|Two lightning-sparked wildfires that scorched sections of Peavine Mountain are out as of Monday morning, according to the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest.
The fires were two of at least a half-dozen blazes that started Saturday evening when a strong lightning-producing thunderstorm rolled through the area.|

|Carson City Firefighters responded Sunday night around 9:10 p.m. to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Monte Rosa Drive.
The 9-1-1 call was made about 9:05 p.m. Sunday night, the caller reporting the smell of smoke coming from the ceiling. Smoke filled up the home quickly, prompting its occupants to evacuate the 1,500 square-foot single-story home.|

|The Bureau of Land Management says the Silver State Fire is approximately 1,200 acres and 8% contained.
They say that while several structures are threatened, there has been no loss of structures.
There are 200 plus personnel on the fire, including Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and multiple helicopters.|

|People returned to their midtown Reno home Saturday and found it was burning. The Reno Fire Department arrived at the Caliente Street home six minutes after the fire was reported at 9:50 a.m. July 14, 2018 and found smoke and flames coming out of the basement. Firefighters knocked it down and kept the fire from spreading beyond the basement.|

|A fire that began in the attic space of a Henderson convenience store caused $75,000 in damage, Thursday morning.
Henderson Fire Department was dispatched around 8:40 a.m. to a commercial structure fire at 306 N. Boulder Highway near Lake Mead Parkway.
When crews arrived at the scene, they saw smoke and fire on the roof of a Terrible Herbst convenience store.|

|The Echo Fire in the south end of the Humboldt Range in Elko County has been fully contained at 6,438 acres, or a bit more than ten square miles, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
Containment was declared one week after the fire started, which was about 10:14 a.m. July 5, 2018. No cause has been determined, but investigators believe it is human-caused.|

Las Vegas firefighters responded an apartment building at 8:35 a.m. in the 300 block of Maydelle Place near Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road.
Fire dispatchers received several 911 calls advising thick smoke was seen coming from the apartment.|

Sparks fire marshal Robert King said the fire that broke out early Wednesday afternoon was contained at about 30 acres (12 hectares).

|More than 600 firefighters slowed the progress Tuesday of a massive wildfire in a remote part of northern Nevada that is generating so much heat and smoke that it’s now visible from space.
A NASA satellite captured infrared imaging of the fire that has burned nearly 700 square miles (1,813 sq. kilometers) of mostly sage brush, grasses and rangeland — an area almost half the size of the state of Rhode Island, according to the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center.|
